There’s the right way to maintain your pool cartridge filters and the wrong way. How are you doing it?

Cartridge filters clean your swimming pool water as it flows through the filtering material. The fabric captures debris and releases the cleaned water back into the pool. Cartridge filters are ideal because they don’t require backwashing. So, water won’t get pushed out onto your landscaping. Cartridge filters are also able to filter smaller particles than sand filters, resulting in greater clarity.

Cartridge filters do require some maintenance. The filter should be disassembled and gently cleaned thoroughly at least twice each pool season.

Cartridge filter cleaning can be tricky because it’s easy to damage the filter fabric. While the filters appear clean on the outside, the frayed fabric results in restricted water flow and poor clarity. Freedom Pool Service is happy to maintain your filters for you.

It’s best to clean your filter when you’re about eight pounds above the starting pressure. Our cartridge filter service includes:

  • Disassembling the filter
  • Cleaning the tank and cartridge
  • Inspecting and lubricating the tank
  • Reassembling the filter

It’s also important to know when it’s time to replace your cartridge filters. Filters generally last up to five years, but they can deteriorate sooner if they aren’t cleaned regularly or if greater demand is placed on them. More frequent cleanings, diminished water quality, and filter damage are all indicators that it may be time for a replacement. Give us a call, and we’ll gladly take care of this for you.
